What E08 actually means
The dryer has overheated and a one-shot safety fuse on the heater has blown, so it won't heat or run properly until that fuse is replaced.
E08 means the control board can no longer see a closed circuit through the thermal fuse on the heater assembly. That fuse is a deliberate safety cut-out — once it goes, it does not reset itself, so the dryer stops and flashes the fault rather than carrying on. It nearly always blows because airflow over the heater has been restricted, so the heater got hotter than it should.
What E08 looks like on a Hoover tumble dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Hoover tumble dryer, E08 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Machine door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- Machine not draining
- Water left in the drum at the end of the cycle
- Stops mid-cycle full of water

What usually causes it
- Blocked lint filters or a fluff-clogged condenser
- Fluff packed into the internal ducting and around the fan
- Fan not turning or turning weakly, so no air passes the heater
- Thermal fuse on the heater has tripped permanently and needs replacing
- Damaged or loose wiring to the fuse on the heater
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Clean both the door filter and the lower/secondary filter thoroughly
- Pull out and rinse the condenser unit (on condenser models) and clear fluff from its housing
- Empty the water container
- Check the rear vent area and surroundings are not blocked and the dryer isn't pushed tight against a wall
- Switch off at the wall for a minute and restart — if E08 returns straight away the fuse has gone
