What E06 actually means
The dryer's main circuit board has failed its own internal memory check, so it has shut the cycle down rather than run blind.
When the dryer powers up, the main control unit reads the settings stored in its memory chip and checks them against itself. On E06 that read fails \u2014 the microcontroller can't access its stored data \u2014 and because it can no longer trust its own programming or the readings from the temperature probes, it locks out as a blocking fault. You'll typically see it appear straight away or within seconds of pressing start, with no heat and no drum rotation.
What usually causes it
- Corrupted memory on the main control board
- Failed main control board (the usual outcome)
- Board needs reprogramming after a previous repair or a replacement board fitted unprogrammed
- Power supply disturbance or surge scrambling the stored data
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the dryer off at the wall socket, leave it a minute, then switch back on \u2014 occasionally a full power-down clears a one-off read error.
- Empty the water container and clean the door filter before retrying, so you're not chasing a second fault at the same time.
- Make sure the dryer isn't running through an extension lead or a shared adaptor.
