What F15 actually means

The machine isn't getting enough hot water in through its hot fill hose, so it has stopped the cycle.

Some Miele machines are plumbed to both a cold and a hot supply. F15 is raised specifically against the hot inlet ot not enough has arrived in the time the control allows, so the programme halts rather than carry on with a part-filled drum. The cold side can be perfectly fine, which is why the machine may have filled normally in the past or on other programmes.

What F15 looks like on a Miele washing machine

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Miele washing machine, F15 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Not filling with water
  • No water going in
  • Takes for ever to fill
  • Stops right at the start of the cycle
  • F15 flashing on the display
  • Beeping and showing F15

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Hot water stopcock or tap behind the machine turned off, or only part open
  • Hot fill hose kinked or trapped behind the machine after it's been pulled out
  • Blocked filter in the hose union at the hot inlet
  • No hot water in the house at all \,, or the boker not running
  • Faulty hot water inlet valve on the machine

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Check the hot tap serving the machine is fully open
  2. Run a hot tap in the kitchen to confirm the house has hot water
  3. Pull the machine forward gently and look for a kinked or squashed hot fill hose
  4. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power up and restart the programme
