What F41 actually means
The machine's control board has lost or corrupted the settings stored in its memory, so it won't run a programme.
F41 points to a faulty EEPROM \u2014 the small memory chip on the control electronics that holds the machine's stored data and settings. When the control reads that data back and finds it missing or corrupted, it stops rather than run a cycle it can't control properly. It is a fault inside the electronics, not something mechanical like a blocked filter or a jammed pump.
What F41 looks like on a Miele washing machine
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Miele washing machine, F41 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start
- Machine tripping the electrics
- F41 flashing on the display
- Beeping and showing F41
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Corrupted data in the control board's memory chip
- A failing EEPROM or control electronics board
- A mains surge or interruption during a cycle scrambling stored data
- Model or programme data lost from the board after previous electronics work (often shows as related codes such as F43)
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall socket, leave it for a minute, then switch back on ack \it clafter \ some cycles it can clear a one-off read error
