The machine has tried to start the drum motor and got no response, so it has given up and stopped.

The control board attempts to drive the motor, and if it fails to turn five times in a row it flags this fault and halts the cycle. In practice you'll see the machine fill or sit with water in the drum but the drum never rotates \u2014 no washing, no tumbling, and often no spin at all. It's a drive fault rather than a water fault, which is why draining and refilling won't clear it.

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart a short cycle \u2014 the count of failed attempts resets and occasionally the fault was a one-off.
Check the door is properly shut and latching, as the machine won't attempt to turn the drum otherwise.
With the machine switched off at the wall, open the door and turn the drum by hand. It should move freely. If it's stiff, grinding or won't budge, note that \u2014 it's useful information for the engineer.
Take out an overloaded wash if the drum is packed solid, then retry with a smaller load.
