What F03 actually means

Your Neff isn't getting the water out of the drum, so it has stopped and flagged a draining fault.

F03 is a drainage fault on Bosch-group machines (Neff, Bosch, Siemens and their relatives). The machine has run the drain pump but the water level hasn't dropped as expected, so it halts rather than carrying on to the spin. You'll usually find the drum still holding water and the door locked shut.

What F03 looks like on a Neff washing machine

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Neff washing machine, F03 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Machine door won't open
  • Door won't lock or click shut
  • Door lock light flashing
  • Door stuck shut with the load inside
  • Won't start even with the door closed
  • Machine not draining
  • Water left in the drum at the end of the cycle
  • Stops mid-cycle full of water

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Blocked pump filter — coins, hair clips, screws and buttons are the usual finds
  • Kinked or blocked waste hose, or a blocked sink spigot where the hose connects
  • Blockage in the sump hose between drum and pump
  • Damaged or jammed pump impeller
  • Failed drain pump, or no power reaching it

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall and leave it a minute, then try a drain or spin programme again.
  2. Check the pump filter behind the kick strip flap at the bottom front — have a shallow tray and towels ready, as it will release the water in the drum. Clear out any debris and refit the filter finger-tight.
  3. Check the waste hose at the back isn't kinked, squashed behind the machine or pushed too far down the standpipe.
  4. If the hose runs into a sink trap spigot, check that connection isn't blocked with grease or fluff.
  5. If the drum is full and the door won't open, use the emergency release tab next to the filter to drain it before opening.
