Neff F34 washing machine: what it means & what to check

What F34 actually means

The machine can't confirm the door is locked, so it won't start or won't release the door.

On Bosch-group machines (Neff, Bosch, Siemens and others), F34 is a door lock fault. The control board sends power to the interlock at the start of the cycle and waits for confirmation that it has latched; if that confirmation doesn't come — or the lock won't release at the end — the programme stops and the code appears. It's the same family of faults as E01, F08, F16 and E61 on these machines.

What F34 looks like on a Neff washing machine

Failed door interlock, by far the most common cause
Door not shut firmly, or laundry caught in the seal

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Open and close the door firmly and try again — make sure no clothing is trapped in the seal
Check nothing is overloaded against the door, pushing it out of line
Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart
Look at the door catch and striker for obvious damage or movement when you close the door
