What F08 actually means
The machine can't confirm the door is locked shut, so it won't start or fill.
On Bosch-built machines (Neff, Bosch and Siemens share the same control platform) F08 sits in the same family as E01, F16 and F34 \u2014 all door interlock faults. The control board sends power to the interlock and waits for the lock to report back that the door is secured; if that confirmation doesn't arrive, the cycle is abandoned before water is taken on. You'll usually see it within the first few seconds of pressing Start, sometimes with the door still releasable.
What F08 looks like on a Neff washing machine
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Neff washing machine, F08 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Machine door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- Not filling with water
- No water going in
- Takes for ever to fill
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Worn or failed door interlock ","Door not pushed fully home, so the catch never engages
- Laundry or a stray sock trapped in the door seal, holding the door proud
- Damaged or sagging door hook or hinge
- Wiring or connection fault at the lock
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Open the door, push it firmly closed and listen for the click of the catch, then try again
- Check nothing is caught in the seal or hanging over the door edge
- Switch off at the wall for a minute, then power up and restart a short programme
- Look at the door hook ","if it is loose or the door drops when open, the catch won't line up
