What F16 actually means

The machine can't confirm the door is properly shut and locked, so it won't start filling or spinning.

On Bosch-built machines (which includes Neff), F16 comes from the door interlock circuit. The control board waits for the lock to confirm the door is secure before it lets water in; if that confirmation doesn't arrive, the cycle stops at the very start and the code appears. Sometimes it's a genuinely unlatched door, but on these models the interlock itself is the usual culprit.

What F16 looks like on a Neff washing machine

What usually causes it

Door not pushed fully shut, or laundry trapped in the seal stopping it latching
Worn or failed door interlock \u2014 by far the most common finding on Neff and Bosch machines
Sticking or broken door catch/handle mechanism so the latch doesn't engage
Damaged wiring or a loose connection at the lock
Control module fault (much rarer, and often blamed wrongly before the lock is checked)

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Open the door and close it again firmly \u2014 you should hear it click.
Check nothing is caught in the door seal, a towel corner or sock is enough to stop it latching.
Wipe the rubber seal and the latch area clean of detergent residue and grit.
Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, switch back on and try a short cycle.
