New World F01 dishwasher: what it means & what to check

What F01 actually means

The dishwasher has tried to pump the water out, given it three minutes and the water level hasn't dropped, so it has stopped and flagged a drain fault.

On these New World machines the control watches the water level while the drain pump runs. If the tub still isn't empty after roughly 180 seconds of pumping, it abandons the cycle and shows F01 rather than carry on washing in dirty water. You'll usually find the programme stopped part way with water lying in the bottom of the tub, and the dishes unrinsed.

What F01 looks like on a New World dishwasher

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a New World dishwasher, F01 usually shows up as one or more of these:

Dishwasher not draining
Water left in the tub at the end of the cycle
Stops mid-cycle full of water
Standing water in the bottom
Not filling with water
No water going in
Takes for ever to fill
Stops right at the start of the cycle

What usually causes it

Blocked filter assembly in the base of the tub — food debris, glass chips or a label
Kinked, trapped or crushed drain hose behind the machine
Blocked sink trap or waste spigot, or the plastic blank never knocked out of a new waste connection
Drain hose pushed too far down the waste pipe or looped wrongly, so water siphons back
Failed or jammed drain pump — often a pip, stone or lump of grease in the impeller
Water level (pressure) switch reading wrongly, so the machine thinks water is still there

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the dishwasher off at the wall for a minute, then back on — a one-off drain stall sometimes clears
Scoop the standing water out with a jug and cloth, then lift out and rinse the filters thoroughly under the tap, including the coarse mesh underneath
Check the sump area for anything sat over the drain opening — a stray label, cocktail stick or fragment of glass
Look behind the machine and along under the sink: make sure the drain hose isn't kinked, crushed by the plinth or trapped by a drawer
Pour a kettle of hot water down the sink and check the sink waste itself isn't slow-draining; if the sink backs up too, the blockage is in the plumbing, not the dishwasher
If it's a newly installed machine or a new waste connection, check the blanking plug in the waste spigot was removed
