What F08 actually means

The valve that switches water between the upper and lower spray arms isn't in the position the dishwasher expects, so the machine has stopped the cycle.

These dishwashers don't spray from both levels at once — a motorised diverter valve in the sump alternates the water between the upper and lower spray arms during the wash. The control board checks that valve's position as the programme runs, and F08 is logged when it reads the diverter as open or stuck rather than moving through its positions on cue. The usual symptom the owner notices is a cycle that halts partway with the code showing, or dishes on one level coming out untouched while the other level washes normally.

What F08 looks like on a New World dishwasher

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the dishwasher off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up and start a short programme — a one-off glitch will sometimes clear.
Lift out the filter assembly and rinse it, and check nothing has fallen through into the sump area you can see.
Spin both spray arms by hand to confirm they turn freely, and check the holes in them aren't blocked with food or limescale.
Run a cycle with a lighter load and see whether the top or bottom basket is the one being left dirty — worth telling the engineer.
