What F05 actually means
The dishwasher isn't getting enough water in, so it has stopped rather than run a cycle dry.
During filling, the machine counts the water going in using a flowmeter. If not enough arrives in the time allowed, it flags F05 (shown as F5) and halts, usually early in the programme with the dishes still dry. It is a supply problem as the machine sees it — which can be the water coming in, or the part measuring it.
What F05 looks like on a New World dishwasher
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a New World dishwasher, F05 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not filling with water
- No water going in
- Takes for ever to fill
- Stops right at the start of the cycle
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start

What usually causes it
- Water supply tap not fully open, or turned off after other work
- Kinked, trapped or crushed fill hose behind the machine
- Blocked filter in the inlet valve where the hose screws on, often from scale or grit
- Low mains water pressure, or the supply shared with another appliance running at the same time
- Faulty flowmeter, so water is arriving but not being counted
- Fault on the control board (much less common)
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check the tap feeding the dishwasher is turned fully on, not just part-open.
- Look behind the machine and make sure the fill hose is not kinked, pinched or trapped against the wall — ease the machine forward gently if you can do so without pulling on the hoses.
- Run a kitchen tap to confirm you have normal mains pressure and nothing has interrupted the cold supply.
- Turn the dishwasher off at the wall for a minute, switch back on and restart a short programme to see if the code returns.
