What is actually happening
A motor that runs while the drum stands still is almost always a snapped drive belt — the belt is a thin band that wraps the whole drum, and when it goes the motor spins freely with nothing to drive. The easy confirmation is that the drum will turn far too freely by hand, with none of the usual resistance.
The Electrolux fault codes that point at this
A Electrolux tumble dryer will usually tell you what it thinks is wrong before anyone opens it up. These are the codes we hold for this make that relate to drum not turning:
- C06 — The dryer has been running an automatic (sensor) drying programme for four and a half hours without ever deciding the load is dry, so it has given up and flagged the moisture sensing as faulty.
- C07 — The dryer isn't getting hot — it checked for a rise in air temperature after the heater switched on, didn't see one, and stopped.
- C08 — The dryer has stopped because its temperature sensor is giving readings the control board doesn't accept.
- E31 — The dryer's moisture-sensing circuit is giving a reading that's far too high to be real, so the machine won't trust it to decide when the load is dry.
- E32 — The dryer can't get a sensible reading from the moisture sensor in the drum, so it stops the cycle rather than dry blind.
- E34 — The dryer's moisture sensor isn't reading properly, so the machine can't tell how wet your washing is.
- E41 — The dryer has found a fault in the part of its control board that powers the door lock, so it has stopped the cycle rather than run with a door it can't reliably lock or release.
- E42 — The dryer's main control board has spotted a fault in its own circuitry for the door lock, and has stopped the cycle rather than carry on.
