What is actually happening

An integrated dishwasher door carries the weight of a cupboard door on its hinges and springs, and those take a lot of use. When a hinge spring or cable breaks the door drops slightly, stops meeting the catch square, and will not latch — which the machine reads as an open door and refuses to run.

The Hotpoint fault codes that point at this

A Hotpoint dishwasher will usually tell you what it thinks is wrong before anyone opens it up. These are the codes we hold for this make that relate to door will not close:

• E03 — The dishwasher hasn't managed to pump the water out in the time it expects, so it has stopped and flagged a drain problem.
• F02 — The dishwasher hasn't taken in the water it expected, so it has stopped before washing anything.
• F06 — The dishwasher hasn't taken in enough water within the time it allows itself, so it has stopped and flagged a fill problem.
• F07 — The dishwasher can't measure the water coming in, so it stops rather than filling blind — usually the little water turbine (flow meter) in the fill circuit is blocked or damaged.
• F13 — The dishwasher has found a fault with its own main control board and has shut the cycle down.
