What C01 actually means
C01 isn't a fault oown as you hold the buttons to switch the child lock on or off.
When you hold the 1st and 2nd auxiliary function buttons down for three seconds, the display counts "C03", "C02", "C01" \u2014 one per second. At the end you'll see "Con" if the child lock has been switched on, or "COF" if it has been switched off. So seeing C01 means the machine has registered your button press and is about a second away from changing the lock setting.
What usually causes it
- Someone holding the two auxiliary function buttons down long enough to toggle the child lock
- Cleaning around the control panel and pressing the buttons by accident
- Children pressing buttons on the panel
- Child lock left on from before \u2014 it survives a power cut or being unplugged
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Look at what the display says after the countdown: "Con" means the lock is now on, "COF" means it's off
- To clear the child lock, hold the 1st and 2nd auxiliary function buttons for three seconds until "COF" appears
- If no programme is running, you can also turn the programme knob to On/Off and then select another programme to release the lock
- Remember the child lock stays set through a power cut, so unplugging the machine will not clear it
