Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E01 actually means

The machine can't get a sensible reading from the sensor that measures the water temperature, so it has stopped rather than heat blind.

Beko machines use a temperature sensor (an NTC thermistor) sitting in the heater area to control how hot the wash water gets. E01 means the control board is seeing either no signal at all from that sensor or a dead short — in other words, a broken wire, a loose plug or a failed sensor. Because it can't control the heating safely, it halts the programme, and you'll often notice cold washes or programmes running far longer than they should.

What usually causes it

  • The temperature sensor plug has worked loose on the control board
  • A damaged or chafed sensor wire inside the machine
  • The temperature sensor itself has failed
  • Water or damp getting into the sensor connection
  • A fault on the main control board

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and try a short cycle — this clears the odd one-off glitch
  2. Note whether the wash water is going cold and how far into the cycle it stops, which helps the engineer

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
