What E02 actually means

The machine can't heat the water — the heating element or its wiring has gone open circuit.

Beko's control board checks the heater circuit and E02 means no electrical path through the heater was found. In most cases the machine will carry on and wash in cold water, then finish the programme without ever heating. It's normally a failed heating element, though a loose or burnt connection at the board can give the same result.

What usually causes it

  • Heating element burnt out (the most common cause)
  • Heater wiring connection loose or corroded
  • Heater damaged by limescale build-up
  • Fault on the control board's heater output

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up and run a short hot wash to see if the code returns
  2. Check whether the door glass warms up during a 60°C wash — if it stays cold, the heater isn't working and it needs an engineer

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
