What E06 actually means
The control board has spotted a fault in the part that drives the drum motor, so the machine has stopped rather than risk running the motor out of control.
E06 points to a failed switching component on the main control board (the motor triac) that has either shorted or gone one-way. Because the board can no longer control motor speed and direction properly, it shuts the programme down. This is an internal electrical fault, not something caused by how you load the machine.
What usually causes it
- Failed motor triac on the main control board
- Damaged control board after a power surge or spike
- Faulty or partly seized drum motor pulling too much current
- Damp or corrosion on the control board, often after a leak
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall socket for a minute, then switch back on and try a short programme — if it was a one-off glitch the code may clear
- Check the machine isn't sharing an overloaded extension lead or adaptor; plug it straight into a wall socket
