Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E12 actually means

The machine thinks it has too much water in it, so it has shut the wash down and is draining instead of washing.

Beko machines have an anti-flood (aquastop) safety level. If the water level sensor reports water at or above that level, the control board stops the programme and runs the pump to get rid of it. Typical signs are the machine draining every time you switch it on and a programme that will not start.

What usually causes it

  • Genuine overfill unning in because a fill valve is not shutting off
  • Blocked or restricted drain \u2014 filter, hose or standpipe
  • Water level sensor or its pressure hose faulty, blocked or kinked
  • Loose or damaged aquastop/sensor connection on the control board
  • Failed control board

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power it back on and see if the code returns
  2. Turn off the water supply tap and see whether the drum keeps filling
  3. Clean the pump filter at the bottom front (with the machine switched off and the drum empty)
  4. Check the drain hose is not kinked, trapped behind the machine or pushed too far down the standpipe
  5. Make sure the drain hose outlet is not sitting lower than it should be, which can siphon water back in

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
