What E16 actually means

The machine has lost the signal from the sensor that judges how clean the rinse water is, so it can't tell whether the load has been rinsed properly.

On Beko machines with the RinSense feature, a conductivity sensor checks the rinse water to decide whether extra rinses are needed. E16 means the control board is reading that sensor as open or short circuit, so it has no usable reading. In many cases the wash itself continues normally and the owner notices nothing beyond the code, but the automatic rinse adjustment is out of action.

What usually causes it

  • Faulty rinsing (conductivity) sensor
  • Damaged or disconnected wiring to the sensor
  • Scale, detergent residue or dirt fouling the sensor contacts
  • Fault on the control board reading the sensor

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then back on and start a short cycle — a one-off glitch can clear
  2. Run a maintenance wash with no clothes and a machine cleaner or descaler, as residue on the sensor can be the trigger
  3. Check the detergent dose isn't excessive, as heavy suds and residue make rinse readings unreliable

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
