What E22 actually means

The machine couldn't balance the wash load, so it ended the programme without spinning it properly.

During the spin ramp-up, the machine weighs how evenly the washing is spread around the drum. If it keeps finding the load lumped to one side, it stops rather than spinning off-balance, and Beko flags it as a warning rather than a hardware fault. Your clothes will be wet but otherwise undamaged.

What E22 looks like on a Beko washing machine

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Beko washing machine, E22 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Machine door won't open
  • Door won't lock or click shut
  • Door lock light flashing
  • Door stuck shut with the load inside
  • Won't start even with the door closed
  • E22 flashing on the display
  • Beeping and showing E22

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • One heavy item on its own, such as a mattress protector, towel or bath mat
  • Very small load that bunches into a ball
  • Bedding or a duvet cover that has wrapped everything up inside it
  • Machine not sitting level, or feet resting on uneven flooring
  • Occasionally a genuine load/level sensor fault if it happens on every wash

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Open the door, shake the washing out and spread it evenly round the drum, then run a rinse and spin
  2. Add a couple of other items if you're washing a single heavy piece
  3. Pull anything out from inside duvet covers before washing
  4. Check the machine isn't rocking — press each corner to see if it sits solidly on the floor
  5. Switch off at the wall for a minute to clear the warning

Which Beko models show E22

E22 means the same thing on this model. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Can I fix Beko E22 myself?

There are 5 checks you can safely do yourself first.

  1. Open the door, shake the washing out and spread it evenly round the drum, then run a rinse and spin.

  3. Pull anything out from inside duvet covers before washing.
