What C03 actually means
C03 isn't a fault at all — it's the first digit of a three-second countdown as the child lock is being switched on or off.
When you hold the 1st and 2nd auxiliary function buttons down, the display counts "C03", "C02", "C01" and then shows "Con" if the child lock has engaged, or "COF" if it has been turned off. Seeing C03 on its own usually means those buttons have been pressed and held — often accidentally, or by a child leaning on the panel. Nothing is wrong with the machine.
What usually causes it
- The two auxiliary function buttons being held down, deliberately or by accident
- A child pressing the control panel
- Something resting against the panel keeping buttons depressed
- Trying to change settings while the child lock is already on, which makes the machine flash the same warning
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Let go of the buttons and watch the display — if it settles on "Con", the child lock is on; "COF" means it's off.
- To switch the child lock off, hold the 1st and 2nd auxiliary function buttons for three seconds until "COF" appears.
- If no programme is running, you can also turn the programme knob to On/Off and then select another programme to clear the lock.
- Make sure nothing is leaning against the control panel.
- Bear in mind the child lock stays on through a power cut or unplugging, so pulling the plug won't clear it.
