What E10 actually means

Blomberg's frost-free fridge freezers with a switchable compartment use an air sensor in that compartment to decide when to call for cooling and when to open the flap that feeds cold air into it. E10 is logged when the board sees that sensor as an open circuit or a short circuit, and the alarm indicator lights up with the code. Rather than stop cooling altogether, the appliance drops into a fixed timed pattern of running and resting, which is why the compartment often still feels cold but drifts warmer or colder than the setting you've chosen.

What usually causes it

Faulty air sensor (thermistor) in the convertible compartment
A damaged or chafed sensor lead, often where the wiring passes into the cabinet
Corroded or loose sensor connector, usually from moisture or a previous defrost problem
Control board fault misreading a sensor that is actually sound — less common, and worth ruling the sensor out first

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Switch the appliance off at the socket for a minute, then back on — if the sensor connection was only briefly disturbed, a stored fault can clear on power-up
Check nothing inside the compartment is jammed against the back or side walls where the sensor and air vents sit
Make sure the door is closing fully and the seal is not folded over, so warm damp air isn't being drawn in and icing things up
Note whether the compartment is actually holding temperature, and move anything perishable to a compartment that is — that tells the engineer a lot
