What E13 actually means

The control board has decided the motorised flap that lets cold air into the fridge section isn't working properly, so it has flagged a fault.

On these no-frost Blomberg fridge freezers, cold air is made in one place and shared out; a small motorised flap (damper) opens and closes to feed the fridge compartment. The control watches for that flap cycling open and shut, and if it sees no change of state for around 400 minutes it logs E13. Cooling normally continues in some form, but the fridge side often drifts warm or over-chills because the airflow is no longer being controlled.

What usually causes it

The flap motor or damper mechanism has failed or is stuck
Ice build-up around the flap jamming it in one position
A wiring or connector fault between the flap and the control board
Food packaging or an overfilled shelf pressing against the air outlet
A control board that has lost the feedback signal from the flap

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Make sure nothing is packed hard against the air vents or the flap opening at the back of the fridge compartment — leave a clear gap
Check the doors are closing and sealing properly, and that a drawer or bottle isn't holding one slightly ajar, as warm damp air causes icing around the flap
Switch off at the wall for a minute and back on; if the fault has genuinely cleared, the code will not return
If you can see frost or ice around the fridge air outlet, empty the appliance and let it stand switched off with the doors open until it has fully thawed, then restart it
