What E23 actually means

The fridge freezer tried to join your home Wi-Fi, could not get connected, and has given up trying — it is a connectivity message, not a cooling fault.

The fault puts E23 with the network side of the appliance rather than the sealed system: the module attempted to establish a Wi-Fi connection, failed, and stopped retrying instead of looping indefinitely. The related code E22 is shown while it is still trying, so E23 means the attempt has ended. Cooling, defrost and fan control carry on as normal, so food is not at risk from this code alone.

What E23 looks like on a Blomberg fridge freezer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Blomberg fridge freezer, E23 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Not cooling
  • Freezer not freezing
  • Ice building up at the back
  • Food going off in the fridge
  • Running constantly and never getting cold
  • Noisy fan
  • Not getting cold evenly
  • Cuts out after a few minutes

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Wi-Fi password entered incorrectly during setup
  • Router too far from the appliance, or a thick wall in between
  • Router on a 5GHz-only band or with settings the appliance cannot join
  • Broadband dropped out part-way through the pairing process
  • Pairing sequence timed out before it finished

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Check your broadband is actually working on a phone stood next to the fridge freezer
  2. Restart your router and give it a couple of minutes to come back up
  3. Turn the appliance off at the wall for a minute, then back on, and let it settle
  4. Run the Wi-Fi pairing sequence again from the start, taking care with the network password
  5. If the signal is weak where the appliance stands, try the router nearer or add a mesh point/extender

Which Blomberg models show E23

E23 means the same thing on this model. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
