What E08 actually means

The temperature sensor inside the automatic ice maker has stopped giving a sensible reading, so the control board has shut the ice-making side down.

This code points at the ice maker's own air sensor — a small thermistor that tells the board how cold the ice compartment is so it knows when to release cubes and refill the mould. The board has seen that sensor reading as either open circuit or short circuit, which it treats as a fault and flags with the alarm indicator. Cooling in the fridge and freezer compartments is controlled by separate sensors, so the food side normally carries on working; what you lose is reliable automatic ice.
