What E24 actually means

The control board has lost the fridge compartment's circulation fan — the fan that moves cold air around the fresh food section isn't running or isn't reporting back as it should.

E24 is a fresh food (fridge) fan error. The board watches the fan's feedback signal, and when the fan doesn't spin up or the signal goes missing it flags the fault and shows the code rather than carrying on blind. Without that fan the cold air stops circulating properly, so you'll often see the fridge side drifting warm, or one shelf cold and another not, while the freezer side seems fine.

What E24 looks like on a Blomberg fridge freezer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Blomberg fridge freezer, E24 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Fridge freezer door won't open
  • Door won't lock or click shut
  • Door lock light flashing
  • Door stuck shut with the load inside
  • Won't start even with the door closed
  • Fridge freezer not draining
  • Water left in the machine at the end of the cycle
  • Stops mid-cycle full of water

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Ice or frost built up around the fan blades, jamming them
  • Failed fan motor in the fridge compartment
  • Loose or damaged wiring to the fan, or a broken plug connection
  • Food or packaging pushed hard against the air outlet at the back of the fridge
  • Fault on the control board reading the fan's feedback signal

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Move food and bags away from the vents at the back and top of the fridge compartment so air can circulate, and don't overpack the shelves
  2. Check the door is closing and sealing properly — a door left ajar or a seal held open by a shelf edge leads to frost building up around the fan
  3. Look for obvious frost or ice over the vent grille inside the fridge; if there is a lot, emptying the fridge and letting it stand switched off with the door open to defrost fully can clear a jammed fan
  4. Switch off at the wall for a minute, then power back up — if the fan was only briefly stalled the code can clear

Which Blomberg models show E24

E24 means the same thing on this model. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
