Blomberg E28 washing machine: what it means & what to check

What E28 actually means

The control board isn't getting the confirmation signal that the door is locked, so the machine refuses to start or fill.

On these Blomberg machines the door interlock has to report back to the main board — via a mains-synchronised "zero cross" signal — that it has engaged before anything else happens. If that signal never arrives, the board assumes the door is not secured and holds the whole cycle: no drum movement, no water intake, just E28 on the display. It's a lock-circuit communication fault rather than a drain, heating or motor problem.

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Open the door fully and close it again firmly — check nothing (a sleeve, a towel corner) is trapped in the seal or catch
Make sure the drum isn't overloaded, which can stop the door pulling up flush
Switch off at the wall for a minute, then power back up and try a short programme
Check the door catch isn't visibly loose or bent, and that the door pushes closed with a definite click
