What E84 actually means
The machine can't connect to its Wi-Fi/Bluetooth side, so the app features aren't working.
E84 means the washing machine's control panel has lost communication with its wireless (Wi-Fi/Bluetooth) board, the part that talks to the HomeWhiz app. It's a connectivity fault, not a washing fault rain and spin still work normally. Either the internal connection between the boards has failed, or the network setup on the machine needs redoing.
What usually causes it
- Loose or unplugged connection between the wireless board and the display board
- Network setup on the machine never completed, or needs re-pairing with the app
- Damaged internal ribbon cable or plug
- Faulty Wi-Fi/Bluetooth board
- Faulty display board (less common)
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch it back on and see if the code clears
- Check your home Wi-Fi is working and the router is on and nearby
- Delete the machine from the HomeWhiz app and add it again, following the pairing steps from the start
- Check the appliance is not tucked so far behind metal or masonry that the signal can't reach it
