What E91 actually means

The main control board has lost control of the circuit that powers the door lock, and the machine has shut the cycle down rather than carry on.

Inside the control card there's a switching device (a triac) that feeds power to the door interlock. On this Blomberg the board monitors that circuit, and code 91 is raised when it reads as permanently made — in other words the lock circuit is being fed when it shouldn't be. The two things owners usually notice are a wash that stops partway and never finishes, and the machine appearing to start up on its own.
