Electrolux 9C dishwasher: what it means & what to check

What 9C actually means

This isn't a fault \u2014 "9C" is the display telling you the machine's floor beam light is set to colour 9, magenta.

Electrolux dishwashers fitted with a beam-on-floor indicator (the light that shines onto the kitchen floor to show the machine is running) let you choose the colour of that beam, and the colours are numbered 0 to 9 on the display. "0C" turns the beam off, and the numbers above it step through white, blue, cyan, turquoise, green, mint, pink, red and finally magenta at 9C. If you see 9C, the appliance has been put into the user setting menu and is showing the colour currently selected y \u2014 nothing has failed and the machine has not stopped because of a defect.

What usually causes it

The colour setting menu has been entered and stepped through, deliberately or by accident
Buttons pressed during startup, which is how the setting mode is reached

Assuming a two-character display always means a fault code

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the dishwasher off at the control to store the setting and leave the menu
Switch off at the wall for a minute, then power up and select a normal programme to confirm it runs as usual
Open the door slightly while changing the setting \u2014 you should see the beam colour change, which confirms it's the light setting and not a fault
