Electrolux F02 dishwasher: what it means & what to check

What F02 actually means

The dishwasher has tried to pump the water out and hasn't managed it in the time allowed, so it has halted with water still in the bottom.

During the drain part of the cycle the control board watches for the water to clear. If the level hasn't dropped by the time the drain pump has been given, it gives up and shows this code rather than carrying on and washing in dirty water. You'll usually open the door to find a pool sitting in the sump and the dishes not properly rinsed.

What F02 looks like on a Electrolux dishwasher

What usually causes it

Blocked filter or sump — food debris, glass chips, labels from jars
Drain hose kinked, crushed behind the machine or pushed too far into the standpipe
Blockage in the waste connection or sink trap the dishwasher drains into, especially a blanked-off spigot on a new install
Drain pump impeller jammed by grit or a fruit stone
Failed drain pump or a level sensing fault on the control board

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and run a short cycle to see if the code returns.
Lift out the filter assembly in the base, rinse it under the tap and clear anything sitting in the sump underneath. Scoop out standing water with a jug or sponge first.
Check the drain hose at the back is not kinked, trapped or squashed against the wall.
If the machine drains into the sink waste, check the sink itself isn't draining slowly — a blocked trap will stop the dishwasher emptying too.
On a recent installation, check the drain spigot on the waste trap has actually had its blanking plug removed.
