What E04 actually means
The dishwasher has detected more water inside than it should have, and it has shut the cycle down to stop a flood.
There's an overflow micro-switch in the base of the machine. If it stays tripped for more than a couple of seconds, the control takes that as a genuine overflow, sounds the buzzer for around 30 seconds and puts up this code. It overrides everything else — on these compact Electrolux models the overflow warning is the highest priority fault, so any other code queuing behind it is ignored until the water problem is dealt with.
What E04 looks like on a Electrolux dishwasher
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Electrolux dishwasher, E04 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Dishwasher door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside

What usually causes it
- Too much water let in — the fill valve not shutting off fully
- A leak inside the machine collecting in the base tray
- Excess foam or suds lifting the float in the base
- The overflow float or its micro-switch stuck or faulty, with no real leak present
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the dishwasher off at the wall and close the water tap at the back or under the sink — that stops any further filling.
- Mop up any water on the floor and look under the machine and around the door seal to see whether water is genuinely escaping.
- Check the drain hose isn't kinked or trapped behind the machine.
- Take out and rinse the filter in the base of the tub, then refit it properly seated.
- With the tap still off, leave it switched off for a minute, then power up and see if the code clears.
