Electrolux F08 oven: what it means & what to check

What F08 actually means

The oven's control panel and the board that actually switches the heating on have stopped talking to each other, so the oven shuts down rather than heat blind.

Electrolux ovens with the Hexagon-type electronic control split the work between two boards oard that that drives the elements and the display/touch control the you press. F08 (also shown as 08, or F908 on some control versions) is the communication alarm raised when those two stop exchanging data properly. Without that link the control has no way of knowing what the oven is doing, so it locks out heating and shows the code instead.

What F08 looks like on a Electrolux oven

What usually causes it

A one-off glitch in the electronics that clears on a full power reset
A loose or disturbed connection in the loom between the two control boards
A failed power board (the part that switches the elements)
A failed display or user interface board
Heat or moisture damage to the control area after heavy use or a pyrolytic clean

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the oven off at the wall or the isolating switch and leave it off for at least 20 seconds \u2014 longer does no harm \u2014 then switch back on and see whether the code returns. Electrolux's own instructions put this first.
If the code appeared during or after a pyrolytic cleaning cycle, let the oven cool fully, check the door closes properly and try starting the cycle again once.
If the code comes straight back, or comes back repeatedly, stop there \u2014 there is nothing further inside the oven that is safe for you to check.
