What F09 actually means
The oven's two electronic boards are running software versions that don't match, so the control has shut the oven down rather than run on mismatched instructions.
An Electrolux oven of this generation has a power board doing the switching and a separate user interface (the touch or rotary control panel) that talks to it. F09 is raised when the firmware version in the power board and the firmware in the control panel aren't a compatible pair, so the two refuse to work together and cooking functions are locked out. In practice we nearly always see this after one of the two boards has been replaced with the wrong version, rather than out of the blue on an oven that has never been worked on.
What usually causes it
- A replacement power board or control panel fitted with incompatible software
- Wrong part variant supplied for the model \u2014 right physical fit, wrong firmware
- A board swapped from a similar but different Electrolux oven
- Occasionally a corrupted software read on the control, which a full power-down clears
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the oven off at the wall or at its isolating switch, leave it for at least half a minute, then switch back on and see if the code returns
- If the oven has recently been repaired, dig out the paperwork \u2014 the part fitted is the first thing an engineer will want to know
