Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What F14 actually means

The oven's control panel and its main circuit board are not speaking the same language, so the oven has locked itself out of any cooking programme.

F14 (shown as F214 on some Electrolux displays) is a configuration compatibility alarm raised by the user interface. The panel checks that its stored configuration and firmware match what the power board expects, and when they don't tally it refuses to run and holds the code on screen. On some models the same code is also logged when the rotary control isn't connected to the board.

What usually causes it

  • Mismatch between the control panel software and the main board software, usually after a board or panel has been changed
  • Corrupted configuration data stored in the control panel
  • Loose or damaged ribbon/data cable between the panel and the power board
  • Faulty user interface board
  • Rotary control knob assembly not connected on models that use one

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Switch the oven off at the wall for at least 30 seconds, then power it back up — a genuine one-off glitch will clear
  2. If the code returns straight away and stays on the display, stop there; there is nothing else safe for you to check

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
