Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What F23 actually means

The oven's control has read a setting or stored value that isn't valid, so it has shut the heating side down rather than run on bad information.

On these Electrolux ovens the user interface board checks the configuration data it holds against what it expects. When a value falls outside the permitted range it sends a shutdown command to the oven's power board and puts F23 on the display. The message stays there until the interface is switched off, so the oven will not cook while it is showing.

What usually causes it

  • Corrupted configuration data stored in the control
  • Control board fitted or replaced without being set up for the model
  • Interference or a power interruption during a cycle
  • Faulty user interface or oven power board

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the oven off at the wall for a minute, then switch it back on — if the value has been scrambled by a supply glitch the fault sometimes clears
  2. Check any clock or settings have not been lost, which points to a supply problem rather than the board itself

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
