What F28 actually means
The oven's control panel has lost contact with the smart/sensor board inside, so it has stopped the cooking function it was running.
Electrolux ovens with the Smart function rely on a separate internal board that reports back to the main display while the food probe cycle is running \-up stages. If the display hears nothing from that board for around two minutes, it flags this fault and drops out of the Smart programme. On the ones we attend, the code shows up during the checking or heat-up stage of a Smart cook rather than on a plain conventional bake, and it clears itself once the two boards talk again \- so it can look intermittent.
What F28 looks like on a Electrolux oven
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Electrolux oven, F28 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not heating up
- Takes ages to get to temperature
- Cuts out part way through cooking
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start
- Oven tripping the electrics
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Loose or corroded plug between the control panel and the internal smart board
- Failed smart/sensor board
- Faulty user interface (display) board
- Damaged wiring loom between the two boards, often from heat over time
- One-off communication dropout after a power interruption
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the oven off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up \- if the boards re-establish contact the message clears
- Try a normal conventional cooking mode instead of the Smart function to see whether the oven otherwise heats and controls temperature properly

Can I fix Electrolux F28 myself?
There are 2 checks you can safely do yourself first.
- Turn the oven off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up \- if the boards re-establish contact the message clears.
- Try a normal conventional cooking mode instead of the Smart function to see whether the oven otherwise heats and controls temperature properly.

Tried the checks and it's still showing F28?
