Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What F92 actually means

The oven's control boards are running software versions that don't match, so the oven refuses to run until it's put right.

On Electrolux ovens, F92 (often shown on the display as F192) is the software compatibility alarm — the user interface and the oven power board have checked each other's software identity and found it isn't a valid pairing. The oven stops rather than heating with controls it can't trust. It very often appears straight after a board or interface has been replaced, or after a control panel swap, where the fitted part wasn't loaded with the correct software for that model.

What usually causes it

  • A recently fitted control board or display module with the wrong software version
  • A replacement part not configured to the appliance's model code
  • Corrupted software on the oven power board
  • Loss of communication between the display and the power board caused by a board fault

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the oven off at the wall for a minute, then back on — an occasional read error can clear on a restart
  2. If the oven has been worked on recently, note who fitted what; the installer needs to reconfigure or refit the part
  3. If the code returns, stop using the oven and book an engineer

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
