Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What C03 actually means

The oven has detected that the electricity coming into it is below the voltage it needs, so it has shut the heating off.

The control board constantly monitors the mains supply. When the incoming voltage drops below the level the oven needs to work safely, it stops the heating elements and shows C03. It's either a genuine problem with the supply to the oven, or the board is misreading it because of a poor connection or a fault on the board itself.

What usually causes it

  • Low or unstable mains voltage in the house, or a supply dip
  • Loose or poor connection in the oven's power supply
  • Overloaded circuit or a shared socket dropping voltage under load
  • Faulty power board misreading the supply

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the oven off at the wall for a minute, then back on, and see if the code clears
  2. Check whether other appliances on the same circuit are behaving oddly or lights are dimming — that points to a house supply issue rather than the oven
  3. If the oven is plugged into an extension lead or adaptor, use a proper wall socket instead
  4. Try the oven when fewer heavy appliances (kettle, shower, tumble dryer) are running

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
