Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What F02 actually means

The oven's door lock has failed to release, so the control has stopped and flagged a fault.

On ovens with a pyrolytic self-clean cycle the door locks itself with a motorised catch. F02 means the control told that catch to unlock and it did not confirm it had done so he the the switch that reports the lock's position isn't giving the expected signal. The oven will refuse to run normally until it's sorted, and the door may stay latched shut.

What usually causes it

  • Faulty motorised door lock unit
  • Failed or misaligned microswitch inside the lock
  • Loose or damaged plug/wiring to the lock
  • Lock jammed part-way after a pyrolytic clean cycle
  • Control board not reading the lock signal correctly

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the oven off at the wall for a minute, then back on he the the door lock often resets itself after a pyrolytic cycle
  2. Let the oven cool completely he the the lock stays engaged until the cavity is below a safe temperature
  3. Check nothing is trapped in the door seal or hinge area preventing the door sitting square
  4. Close the door firmly and try a short normal cooking function to see if the code clears

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
