Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E01 actually means

The oven's main control board isn't set up correctly for this model, so the electronics have shut things down rather than run with the wrong settings.

E01 is a configuration alarm on the power board — the board that switches the heating elements. Either its programming doesn't match the appliance it's fitted to, or it has lost the settings it needs, and the control panel and power board can't agree on how the oven should behave. The oven stops rather than guess.

What usually causes it

  • Power board programming lost or corrupted after a power surge or brownout
  • A replacement board or control panel fitted without being programmed for this model
  • Software fault after a firmware update or interrupted power
  • Faulty user interface (control panel) giving bad data to the board
  • Failed power board

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the oven off at the wall (or at the fuse switch) for a full minute, then switch back on — this clears some one-off configuration alarms
  2. If the oven is on a plug, unplug it for 30 seconds rather than pulling anything apart
  3. Check whether the code returns straight away or only when you select a particular function — useful information for the engineer

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
