What C01 actually means

The oven won't start its pyrolytic self-clean because the telescopic shelf runners (or side racks) are still inside.

Pyrolytic cleaning runs at a very high temperature, far hotter than normal cooking, and the telescopic runners aren't designed to survive it. The oven has detected that the runners are still fitted, so it blocks the clean cycle and shows C01 with no heating at all. Take them out and the cycle will run as normal.

What usually causes it

  • Telescopic runners or side racks left in the oven cavity before starting pyrolytic clean
  • Runners not pushed fully out / partially in place
  • Shelves, trays or the wire side grids left inside
  • The switch that detects the runners has stuck or failed
  • Fault in the wiring to that detection switch

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Once the oven is cool, take out everything from the cavity — shelves, trays, side grids and the telescopic runners themselves
  2. Check the runners are completely removed, not only pulled part-way out
  3. Close the door properly and restart the pyrolytic cycle
  4. If it still shows C01, switch off at the wall for a minute, then try again

When to call someone

This often clears with the checks above, and rarely needs an engineer. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
