What F29 actually means

The oven's Smart Board — the electronics that read the sensors during the automatic Smart cooking functions — has returned readings it can't trust, so the oven shuts the heating down.

F29 comes from the analogue-to-digital section of the Smart Board, the part that converts sensor signals into numbers the control can use. When those values don't add up, the board reports a fault to the display, the control sends a system-off command and heating stops. It only appears while a Smart function is running — during the checking, ambient or heat-up stages — so conventional oven modes may well still behave normally.

What usually causes it

  • A fault on the Smart Board itself (the usual finding)
  • A sensor connection to the Smart Board gone bad or loose
  • A one-off electrical glitch that has latched the alarm
  • A control board or interface communication problem being reported as a board error

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the oven off at the wall for a minute, then back on, and see whether the message clears.
  2. Try a normal oven setting rather than a Smart/automatic function — if that works, it confirms the fault sits in the Smart side of the electronics.

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
