What F26 actually means
The oven's control board has lost a sensible reading from its own temperature sensor, so it has shut the oven down as a precaution.
There is a small temperature sensor (an NTC) fitted on the oven's power board, which watches how hot the electronics behind the fascia are getting. On this code the reading coming back is outside the range the board expects — not a believable temperature at all — so the controller sends a shutdown command and holds the fault on the display until you switch the oven off. It is a fault with the oven's own electronics and their cooling, not with the food probe or the main oven sensor.
What usually causes it
- Tangential cooling fan not running, so the electronics behind the controls overheat
- Failed NTC sensor on the power board giving an impossible reading
- Loose or damaged connection to the board's temperature sensor
- Power board failure
- Oven built into a tight housing with blocked ventilation
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the oven off at the wall for a good minute or two, then power it back up — if it was a one-off glitch it will clear
- Listen for the cooling fan when the oven is heating; if you hear nothing, that is worth telling the engineer
- Check nothing is blocking the vent above or below the oven door, and that the gap around a built-in oven is clear
