Grundig E01 hob: what it means & what to check

What E01 actually means

The temperature sensor fitted to one of the induction coils under the glass isn't giving a sensible reading, so the hob has shut that zone down.

Each induction coil in these Grundig Petek hobs has a small NTC temperature sensor attached to it, which the induction board reads constantly to keep the coil from overheating. When that reading goes missing or out of range, the control flags the coil NTC fault and the zone stops heating — the usual complaint we get is one ring that lights up and beeps but never gets the pan hot. E01 sits alongside E2, which is the same idea but for the sensor on the heatsink rather than the coil.

What E01 looks like on a Grundig hob

What usually causes it

The sensor's plug has worked loose or corroded at the induction board
A broken or chafed sensor lead under the hob
The coil temperature sensor itself has failed or drifted out of range
Heat damage around the coil after prolonged boiling over or a blocked ventilation gap
A fault on the induction board reading the sensor

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the hob off at the wall or the isolating switch for a minute, then back on — an occasional one-off reading will clear
Check nothing is blocking the ventilation gap around or beneath the hob, such as a stored tray or packaging in the cupboard below
Make sure the glass and the affected zone are clean, dry and free of spilled liquid that has run into the surround
