Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What F01 actually means

The hob's touch control panel has failed its own internal check, so the hob shuts the cooking zones down.

On these induction hobs the touch panel is a circuit board in its own right, and it runs a self-test. When it finds a hardware fault within itself it reports F01 and refuses to let you set or hold a heat level. It is a fault in the control board, not in the pan, the zone or the glass.

What F01 looks like on a Grundig hob

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Grundig hob, F01 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Not heating up
  • Takes ages to get to temperature
  • Cuts out part way through cooking
  • Noisy fan
  • Not getting cold evenly
  • Cuts out after a few minutes
  • No function at all
  • Dead — nothing lights up

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • A failed touch control board — this is what the fault code points at directly
  • Moisture or spilled liquid that has got behind the glass and onto the control board
  • Heat or overspill damage around the control area
  • A loose or damaged connection between the touch board and the main power board

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the hob off at the wall or the isolating switch, leave it a minute, then switch back on — this clears the odd one-off glitch.
  2. Make sure the glass over the touch area is completely dry and clean, with nothing resting on it. Wipe with a dry cloth, not a wet one.
  3. If anything has recently boiled over onto the controls, leave the hob switched off and give it plenty of time to dry out before trying again.

Which Grundig models show F01

F01 means the same thing on all 2 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
