Grundig E02 hob: what it means & what to check

What E02 actually means

The hob's electronics have lost a sensible reading from the temperature sensor that watches the cooling heatsink inside the unit, so it shuts the affected zone down rather than risk overheating.

On these Grundig Petek induction hobs the power electronics sit on a heatsink with an NTC temperature sensor bolted to it, and the control board reads that sensor constantly to know how hot the internals are getting. E02 is logged when that heatsink sensor reading is missing, out of range or its wiring has gone open or short — it is the sister code to E01, which covers the sensor on the induction coil itself. With no trustworthy temperature reading the board has no safe way to manage cooling, so it stops heating; you'll typically see the code on the display and a zone that won't heat at all.

What usually causes it

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the hob off at the wall or the fuse for a minute, then power it back up — if the reading was a momentary glitch the code may clear
Make sure the cooling vents under and around the hob are not blocked by packaging, drawer contents or fitted units
If the hob has been running hard, let it cool completely before switching it on again and see whether the code returns
