Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E03 actually means

The touch control panel on the front of the hob has lost contact with the induction power board underneath it, so the hob won't heat.

A Grundig induction hob is really two boards working together: the glass touch panel you press, and the induction board that drives the coils. E03 is logged when the touch control stops receiving replies from that induction board. With no communication, the control has no way of knowing what the coils are doing, so it shuts the zones down rather than run blind — you'll typically see the code appear as soon as you power up or try to set a heat level, with no heat from any zone.

What E03 looks like on a Grundig hob

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Grundig hob, E03 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Not heating up
  • Takes ages to get to temperature
  • Cuts out part way through cooking
  • Noisy fan
  • Not getting cold evenly
  • Cuts out after a few minutes
  • No function at all
  • Dead — nothing lights up

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • The ribbon or plug connection between the touch panel and the induction board has worked loose or corroded
  • Moisture or spilled liquid that has tracked down behind the glass onto the connections
  • A failed induction power board
  • A failed touch control board
  • Heat damage to the wiring between the two boards

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the hob off at the wall or the fuse switch, leave it a minute, then power it back up — a one-off communication glitch will sometimes clear
  2. Wipe the glass and the area around the touch controls completely dry, and make sure nothing (a pan, a cloth, a spill) is sitting over the control area
  3. If liquid has recently been boiled over or spilled across the hob, leave it switched off and give it several hours to dry out before trying again

Which Grundig models show E03

E03 means the same thing on this model. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
