What E01 actually means

The machine can't confirm the door is shut and locked, so it won't start or carry on.

Before any Montpellier washer dryer will fill or turn the drum, the control board waits for the door interlock to confirm the door is latched. E01 is raised when that confirmation doesn't arrive l closed, or the lock itself has failed to engage or report back. Until the board sees a locked door it holds the programme, which is why the cycle simply won't begin \u2014 or stops dead partway with water still inside.

What E01 looks like on a Montpellier washer dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Montpellier washer dryer, E01 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Machine door won't open
  • Door won't lock or click shut
  • Door lock light flashing
  • Door stuck shut with the load inside
  • Won't start even with the door closed
  • Not filling with water
  • No water going in
  • Takes for ever to fill

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Door not pushed firmly enough to click shut
  • Laundry, or a trapped item of clothing, stopping the door closing fully
  • Worn or sticking door catch and striker plate
  • Failed door interlock (the part that locks the door and tells the board it's locked)
  • Loose or damaged wiring at the interlock, or a control board fault

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Open the door and close it again firmly until you hear it click.
  2. Check nothing is caught in the seal or hanging over the door edge \u2014 a towel corner or bra strap is enough to hold the door off its catch.
  3. Take out some washing if the drum is packed tight and the door is being pushed back open.
  4. Look at the striker on the door and the recess it sits in \u2014 if the catch is visibly broken or the door drops as you close it, that's your answer and it needs replacing.
  5. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart the programme.

Which Montpellier models show E01

E01 means the same thing on all 7 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
